About Rats Realm
Hi my name is Hilloah Whealser. Ratz Realm is located in Southern California's beautiful San Gabriel Valley (Los Angeles county) off the 210 freeway. I have been raising rats for over ten years. I raise pedigreed pet rats for health, loving temperaments and undeniable cuteness. I often raise rats from show quality stock as well as pet quality and only adopt out rats that are healthy and friendly.
I love each and every rat I raise. Every baby rat is handled from birth. I take a lot of time cuddling, kissing, and playing with the babies so they will be happy, playful and well socialized by the time they go to their new homes. I also have foster homes that raise some of my litters. Families or individuals that would like to experience the fun and joy of raising baby rats will take home a pregnant momma rat and love and care for the babies until they are ready for adoption at which time they come back to me. This enables me to breed more litters and have all of them well socialized.
I always adopt out rats in same sex pairs unless you have rats at home. I never adopt out a single rat if it will live alone. Rats are very social and are happiest with a buddy to play, sleep, groom, and cuddle with.
I ask that a non-toxic bedding material be used such as Aspen or Carefresh. The common bedding materials in pet shops that are toxic to rats are pine and cedar. They cause liver damage, lung damage-chronic respiratory problems and reduced immune response.
Rats, just like larger pets, may need veterinary care at some point in their lives. I ask that the rats be taken to the vet in the event of an illness or injury. Don't rely on pet store bird and fish antibiotics. They are just not strong enough.
I also feel that when rats are going to children, even teens, it is the parent's responsibility to see to the rat's welfare. Parents need to oversee that the rats are taken out daily for play time, have fresh filtered or bottled water, healthy foods, clean cages, clean bedding and veterinary care when needed. Small children must be supervised when playing with the rats. If you have small children schedule play time with the rats at a time the whole family can participate. It's a lot of fun and a great way to teach children gentleness and a love for animals.
I highly recommend multi-level cages over glass/Plexiglas aquariums. Cages have better ventilation and rats get more exercise in them. My rats love to climb the bars and run up and down the ramps. Cages also make it easy to hang hammocks which rats love and also your rats can better interact with you through the cage bars. Aquarium toppers (a cage that fits on top of an aquarium) can now be purchased online and at some pet stores to enlarge and make aquariums a fun and healthier home for your rats.
I love all my rats and want to see them go to caring homes-to someone who will love and spoil them as much as I do.
I am always available to answer your rat questions. Just send me an e-mail. RatzRealm@gmail.com
I am a proud member of the RMCA SO CAL (Rat and Mouse Club of America).
IMPORTANT
I reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone, for any reason, without disclosure.
An adoption agreement is to be signed by myself and the adopting party. ADOPTION AGREEMENT
Rats at Ratz Realm are bred to be companions and pets. I will not adopt out rats for breeding to individuals or breeders unless I give my permission at the time of the adoption and it is put in writing on the adoption agreement. Please be honest about your intentions to breed.
Adoption fees for newly weaned and socialized babies range from $20 to $30. Older, retired Realm rats and rescues are less.
